Help us plan and host our spring fundraising event! This is a shorter term commitment that is flexible based on how you want to participate. Whether you prefer planning details behind the scenes, visiting businesses for donations or welcoming guests on event day, we have lots of ways for you to use your gifts and interests to help us raise funds - and have fun doing it!

Commitment: Event Team is active January - May, with virtual and in-person activities. Team check-ins will help volunteers stay connected and updated throughout planning.

Help Wild Whatcom throw a bird-themed party for up to 150 guests, to help raise funds to create nature access for all - especially local youth!

We need day-of support for event set up and decorating, guest check in, silent auction management, food and beverages, raise the paddle tracking, A/V equipment, taking event photos/video, and clean up/tear down.

NOTE: While this is a one-day commitment (4+ hours, based on your availability), we expect volunteers to attend a short event orientation so that you can ask questions, get details, and know what to expect.

Do you like capturing outdoor joy in photos and/or video? Is creating slideshows or digital scrapbooks your thing? We need volunteers to help us document programs and events in digital formats to share with participants and the public. We aren’t looking for perfection, just enthusiasm! Lots of flexibility based on your availability and interests. We have programs seven days a week throughout the year, including some evenings.

Commitment varies based on your schedule, with a suggested one-year term.

Help amplify Wild Whatcom’s outreach and communications on social media and at events. Participate remotely, or combine digital and in-person activities, based on availability and preferences. While the main activity is social media sharing, we ask Social Ambassadors to participate in at least two fundraisers (remote/in person) and/or community events (in person) per year - mix and match to suit your schedule and interests.

Commitment: All/mostly remote, 3 virtual check-ins annually, with a suggested one-year term.

This committee provides guidance, oversight, and support to all major forms of individual and business donor planning, development, management, and reporting. This volunteer opportunity allows you to flex your creative, strategic and relational skills to bring together community-minded people and organizations who support equitable access to nature's benefits!

We believe everyone has the skills to fundraise, and incorporate fundraising training into our annual calendar. No experience necessary, but willingness to actively participate in both planning and implementation a must.

Wild Whatcom’s Board of Directors is vital to the current and ongoing success of the organization. Our Board provides strategic direction and accountability, helps develop goals, works to increase financial capacity, conducts public relations, and generally works for the well being of the organization. We also believe that serving on the Board should be fun, educational, and rewarding!

We are currently seeking board directors for our 2025-26 year. If you have a passion for equitable access to nature, the health benefits of regular time spent outdoors, and inspiring people of all ages to be active stewards of local nature spaces, this is a perfect opportunity to provide community voice to our work.

Commitment: Five meetings a year (quarterly, plus an annual retreat).

These volunteers work alongside our mentors in our Explorers Club program with grades 1-3. Outings run on weekends from 9:30am-2:30pm at parks around Whatcom County. Commitment: once per month for a total of 8 outings during September-early June.

These volunteers works alongside our mentors in our after school program, Neighborhood Nature with grades K-2. Outings run Monday-Thursday from 2:00-5:00pm at parks in Bellingham (option for Blaine on Thursdays). Commitment: once per week for the 3 month season (Fall, Winter, or Spring).

OUTREACH & EVENTS COMMITTEE

Help build awareness and support for our mission and programs! As part of the Outreach and Events Committee (aka Outreach Otters), you will join us at our info tables at community events and fundraisers like nature trivia at local pubs. Other activities can be done on your own time, like posting flyers, prepping prize bags, and writing thank you cards. Commitment: meets monthly with a suggested one-year term. We ask that you volunteer for a minimum of four community events (average time is 2-4 hours each) per year. This group reviews the budget and financial projections as well as supports conversations around financial planning, investing, and staff changes. This group supports with writing and editing grants, and occasionally other writing projects, when needed. Our team reaches out via email to this group to ask for help about 1-2 times per quarter, and we have video check-ins 3 times a year. This is a fully remote opportunity, but you're always welcome to join our in-person socials along with other volunteers!
