Volunteer: Domestic Violence Parenting Plan Clinic Assistant

Overview: LAW Advocates provides self-help legal advice and help in completing forms for parenting plans and divorces to low-income survivors of domestic violence who have children. These clients are referred by Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services. We are seeking a Clinic Assistant to work directly with the supervising attorney and legal team. 

Commitment: 6 – 10hours/month(Monday – Friday) in downtown Bellingham. Includes attendance at monthly clinics in downtown Bellingham. 

Duties:  

Call clients to complete intakes and schedule for upcoming clinic; 

Send clinic reminder calls, texts and emails;  

Assist attorney and legal team with setting up monthly clinic;  

Maintain accurate case notes in case management software; 

Refer clients to other community resources, as appropriate; 

Close cases, including soliciting feedback from clients and archiving case files; 

Offer feedback to LAW Advocates staff and legal team for improving services;  

Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications:  

Commitment to the Mission of LAW Advocates;  

Able to make a minimum 6-month commitment; 

Appreciation for the sensitive nature of confidential information, places a high priority on confidentiality; 

Serve as apositive and professional representative of LAW Advocates; 

Basic computer (PC) literacy;

Volunteer: Street Law at the Bellingham Public Library Volunteers

Street Law is where volunteer attorneys provide free legal advice (15-20 minutes).

Non-attorney volunteers needed for one Saturday per month 10am -2pm (plus a training) for Street Law at Bellingham Library. Volunteers would check in clients, answer questions and provide people with resources and help the process proceed smoothly for clients, attorneys and the library.
