Become a part of the Bellingham Independents Special Olympics Community Program and lend a hand to help our teams be the best they can be! This volunteer opportunity requires your availability once a week for roughly two hours. You will work alongside our coaches to assist in the smooth operation of the various available sports our athletes enjoy. Sports and dates are listed in the right column to see what would fit for your availability. 

-No coaching experience required, No experience working with people with Intellectual Disabilities required.

-For the safety of our athletes, all coaches and assistant coaches must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Help us build our online presence! Boost our sports teams' visibility by posting on team social media accounts about team accomplishments, season highlights, event results, upcoming fundraiser and other community activities. Creativity is a must. Must also be willing to communicate with coaches and leadership board members and be willing to attend a variety of events. Please contact sobellingham@gmail.com 

Bellingham Special Olympics is looking for a creative, forward-thinking leader to assist the Area Leadership with its fundraising goals. This could be a great opportunity for someone looking to build up their experience in the field of non-profit fundraising and development. This individual will act as a member of the Area Leadership team and must be able to take the initiative to try out fundraising and development strategies. This position will work to recruit new volunteers for local Special Olympics' group. We have seasonal sports listed in the right hand column.  Additionally, the Volunteer Coordinator will establish communication methods to connect with existing volunteers and encourage their continued support of Special Olympics teams in Whatcom county. This is a volunteer leadership position and would be well suited for someone who is independently motivated, an excellent communicator and well organized.
