The Mt. Baker Hill Climb is seeking volunteers for Sunday, September 8th! This race ascends 4,098 feet from Chair 9 in Glacier to Artist Point (5,140 feet elevation) in approximately 22 miles. The Mt. Baker Highway (SR 542) is known as one of the most scenic paved roads in the country and rarely is the highway closed to motorized vehicles from Glacier to Artist Point.
This is a great opportunity to spend time in the Mt. Baker National Forest and historically the weather is beautiful up there in this time of year. The proceeds from this event will benefit the local non-profit, Shifting Gears (www.letsshiftgears.com), as well as local food banks.
Volunteer shifts begin at 6 am and the event should be wrapped up by around 1 pm. Most shifts are approximately 3 to 5 hours long. There are a variety of positions available, including racer check-in at Chair 9 Restaurant in Glacier, handing out water and snacks to racers at Aid Stations along the route and at the Finish Line, and bicycle/vehicle traffic control leaving Artist Point. To get more details about specific volunteer positions, please email info@bakerhillclimb.com.
