Sustainable Connections' Food Recovery Program reduces food insecurity and addresses climate change by recovering and redistributing nutritious surplus food to neighbors in need. We need volunteers to help pick up food from restaurants and transport the food to hunger relief agencies. Sign up here!
Open Volunteer Position
Pick up surplus pastries and sandwiches from Woods Coffee Boulevard location. This volunteer would be responsible for picking up on Monday and Wednesday each week in May between the hours of 8-11. The surplus food is than routed to 22 North, a permanent housing facility operated by The Opportunity Council and Northwest Youth Services. 22 North is located in downtown Bellingham less than 2 miles away.
Plan to:
- Plan to drive your own vehicle or ride you bike. This opportunity is a good match with a bicycle with the right set up.
- Lift a cooler bag up to 30lbs.
- Bend and lift
- Load food in the vehicle or on bike
- Interact with kitchen staff and hunger relief agency staff
Please bring:
- A mask
- We will supply you with a cooler bag and hand sanitizer.
