Sustainable Connections' Food Recovery Program reduces food insecurity and addresses climate change by recovering and redistributing nutritious surplus food to neighbors in need. We need volunteers to help pick up food from restaurants and transport the food to hunger relief agencies. Sign up here!

Open Volunteer Position

Pick up surplus food from Whole Foods Market. This person would be responsible responsible for heading a team of rotating volunteers doing grocery rescue. You would meet at 8am Sunday morning and help to gather and weigh groceries from four different departments. You would then help the other volunteers load up their vehicles. These drivers will be responsible for driving to two different hunger relief agencies served by this recovery. Only in the event that the grocery recovery exceeds the capacity of the two other vehicles would this person have to drive. In that instance, the hunger relief agency is located less than 2 miles away.

Plan to:

  • Plan to drive your own vehicle to Whole Foods and possibly drive to another site 2 miles away.
  • Lift boxes weighing as much as 50 lbs. Total recovery can be as much as 500-1,000 lbs.
  • Bend, lift, and twist
  • Load food in the vehicle
  • Interact with store staff and hunger relief agency staff

 

Please bring: 

  • A mask
  • We will supply you with hand sanitizer.
