MADD Sat. Oct 22, 2016

Agency: City of Bellingham Parks & Public Works Natural Resources, and Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA)

Project Description: Looking around Squalicum Creek Park, most of us would never guess the site’s industrial history as an airport, a gravel pit, and a cement plant. Since the first tree planting in 2005, the Park’s Master Plan has guided development and reflects our community's values with an active recreational core surrounded by forest and riparian habitat.

Community stewardship has been essential to the park's transformation: over the past 12 years, more than 2,000 volunteers have donated 6,000+ hours improving crucial habitat in Squalicum Creek.

Join us in celebrating the power of collaboration as we remove invasive species and plant native trees and shrubs. Volunteers will be working outdoors and on steep slopes.

Bellingham mayor, Kelli Linville, will be on site to share the Arbor Day proclamation with participants at 9 am. What better way to honor Make a Difference Day—the largest national day of service of the year, and Arbor Day—a day to celebrate the many benefits of trees, than coming together to improve our park and help ensure the longevity of this vital urban habitat.
