Volunteer Role: Website Design & Development Support
Location: Remote or Bellingham, WA
Time Commitment: 5–10 hours per month
Commitment Length: 6 months, with the opportunity to extend
Overview:
Kulshan Carbon Trust (KCT) is seeking a creative and detail-oriented volunteer to help enhance and maintain our website. Our site is the “front window” for the organization—how we share our mission, invite collaboration, and connect with our community. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for environmental action, user-focused design, and clear communication. You’ll work closely with our team to update content, improve navigation, modernize visual elements, and ensure the site effectively tells the story of our work and impact.
Responsibilities:
Update and refine existing pages to better reflect KCT’s mission, programs, and current projects.
Create new pages for priority areas, such as board/advisor recruitment and partner collaboration opportunities.
Improve visual elements by incorporating authentic images of KCT’s work and events.
Enhance the organization and clarity of project and resource pages for easier navigation.
Help develop interactive or hub-style resource sections (e.g., a Pacific Northwest biochar resource hub).
Ensure the site is visually engaging, mobile-friendly, and accessible.
Collaborate with KCT staff and volunteers to align design updates with upcoming strategy and outreach goals.
Ideal Qualifications:
Experience with website design and management (Squarespace experience preferred but not required).
Basic HTML/CSS skills or familiarity with website builders.
Understanding of UX principles, accessibility standards, and responsive design.
Strong eye for visual design and detail.
Interest in environmental conservation, climate solutions, or nonprofit work.
Ability to work independently while incorporating team feedback.
Your work will help KCT more effectively share our story, engage supporters, attract partners, and serve as a trusted hub for information on nature-based climate solutions in Northwest Washington. By improving our website’s design and functionality, you’ll directly contribute to expanding our reach and deepening community engagement.
