The Twin Sisters Markets have been providing Whatcom County with locally grown produce since 2015. We are a collaborative mobile farmers market, selling a variety of local farm products at three locations - Deming, Kendall, and the Birchwood neighborhood of Bellingham.
This 2023 season, we are seeking a few weekly or alternating biweekly volunteers to support the Kendall market and our mission to provide fresh local food in underserved areas of Whatcom County. We are also seeking backup volunteers to fill any open shifts regular volunteers are unable to fill.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- Shifts will be weekly or biweekly at one of our Kendall market location on Saturdays from 9am-3pm (market runs from 10am-2pm) for the market season (June-October).
- Meet the market staff member on site and help set up/takedown the market including display signs, tables, and crates of produce.
- During the market, provide friendly customer service, restock items, answer questions about our local produce, and assist in all sales using cash, EBT cards, senior vouchers, and credit cards using the Square App on an iPad.
- Reliably communicate with market staff, board members, and fellow volunteers to ensure market success
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to commit to a volunteer training in May and, thereafter, volunteer shifts either weekly or biweekly for the duration of the market season. Backup volunteers will need to attend the training and one market shift.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs repeatedly (crates full of fruit and vegetables) to help unload/load and set up/take down the market and ability to stand for long periods of time outdoors with or without cover
- Strong customer service and communication skills and knowledge or strong interest in learning about locally grown food
COMPENSATION: $25 worth of fresh produce from what is leftover at the end of each market shift (does not include meat, honey, dairy, eggs, or other value-added items), 10% discount on all items, and market swag
